Charleston County kids and teens 18 and under are eligible for free summer meals at 36 CCSD locations until early August

Charleston, South Carolina – The Covid-19 pandemic had a huge impact on many people in the Lowcountry area making it difficult for some parents to cover all the expenses their families have, especially during the summer school break. The Charleston County School District acknowledges the problems some parents face and decided to offer meals for children 18 and under during the summer, until early August.

According to CCSD officials, no-cost meals will be available at 36 locations in the Charleston County area with no prior registration. Per the school district, the summer meals program is planned to operate until August 5, every day from Monday to Friday.

District officials know that the summer months can be some of the hungriest times of year for many kids, something that was seen in the last few years since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Inflation is at an all-time, including the soaring prices of food, with no end in sight,” Jeremy Tunstill, CCSD’s summer meals program coordinator, said. “Many families will struggle to put food on the table. I believe that our summer meals program can help these families in some small way.”

The school district prepared a special map with all of the locations. In addition, a printable list with all the needed details for every location, including working hours, address and contact number, can be downloaded on this link.
