Charleston PD reopens investigation about December crash when bicyclist was hit by a SUV and died earlier this week

Charleston, South Carolina – The Charleston Police Department confirmed they are reopening the investigation about the December crash when bicyclist was hit and injured, but died earlier this week.

According to the authorities, the incident took place just before noon on December 8, 2020, at 1 S. Park Circle.

Elisabeth Wolfsen, CPD spokesperson, said that the incident happened on a parking lot when the bicyclist, who was riding in an opposite direction of a Toyota SUV, was hit by the vehicle after they both tried to turn, but collided.

The bicyclist was examined at the scene and he was only diagnosed with minor injuries. He was taken to hospital for further examinations as a precaution and was again, diagnosed with minor injuries. He was released home the same day.

The case was initially closed by the local authorities, but was reopened this week after the bicyclist reportedly sustained internal injuries and died on Wednesday, two months after the crash.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released by the authorities.

Once more details are available, we will update the case!
