Charleston woman donates $1M to South Carolina Red Cross

Charleston, South Carolina – Generous Charleston woman donates $1M to the South Carolina Red Cross officials announced.

March is American Red Cross Month and this is probably the most successful one.

The official announcement about the donation was released today, Tuesday, March 16th.

“I feel a commitment to the Red Cross and feel a level of ownership toward our lifesaving mission. It’s part of my volunteer responsibility to engage and educate people about the work that we do,” the generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, said. “It’s not about me. It’s about them, the people we serve.”

“We are thrilled to accept this gift and excited to save even more lives across the Lowcountry and beyond,” added Executive Director of Lowcountry South Carolina, Ashley Henyan. “On behalf of the communities, families and individuals we serve, I can only say ‘thank you.’”

2020 was a difficult year for everyone, we want to sum up what we South Carolina Red Cross achieved during the year:

  • Red Cross volunteers responded to more than 1,800 house fires
  • more than 5,000 were provided with safe place to stay, food and emotional support
  • more than 77,000 blood units were collected at over 3,300 blood drives
  • more than 4,000 US services members, veterans, and their families were supported
