In multiple occasions in the last couple of months, former president Donald Trump has been teasing a run for a second term in 2024 but has not made any official announcement of his candidacy yet. As we already reported, Trump is still the most favored potential Republican candidate among the GOP voters to run for president in 2024.
“It’s not that I want to,” Trump said to Fox’s Sean Hannity in a recent interview. “The country needs it. We have to take care of this country. It isn’t fun, fighting constantly, fighting always.”
However, at this point Trump can’t formally create a presidential campaign because of the campaign finance laws. At least that’s what he said to Michael Savage’s on Tuesday.
“I can’t really because of campaign finance rules, regulations, very complicated, very stiff, and frankly very antiquated if you want to know the truth. It’s ridiculous,” he said.
The conservative media outlet noted that Trump’s Save America PAC is a political powerhouse with $85 million cash on hand as of April, but the former president cannot use that money directly for his own race.
“I will be talking about it and I think that people will be very happy,” the president added regarding his own ambitions to return to the White House.
Meanwhile, an unnamed source from the Republican National Committee allegedly confirmed that Trump has told his dinner friends that he is about to run for president again in 2024.
This information surfaced online shortly before Trump’s statement on campaign finance laws last Tuesday.
“I have three friends who’ve had dinner with [Trump] in the last couple of months. All three reported that his current plans are to run for president in 2024,” Rolling Stone reported.
The Republican candidate for the 2024 election will depend mostly on Trump’s final decision whether he will run again or not. Despite losing the latest election, Trump still has pretty decent rating among the GOP voters and his recent rallies just proved that.
Furthermore, the fact that Trump will be 78-year-old in 2024 should also be taken into consideration as he used Biden’s age to attack him during the 2020 election’s campaign.
Trump’s supporters and voters will still have to remain patient regarding his final decision.
