Ex-South Carolina cop accused of stealing guns from the seized weapons now accused that he also took more than $7,000

South Carolina – The former South Carolina man who is accused that he stole guns from the seized weapons is now accused that he also took $7,500 from the evidence room.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the ex-cop was identified as the 46-year-old Wade Franklin Rollings who has been with the Summerville Police Department is accused that he stole at least four handguns that were locked up with evidence and then selling them to a local pawn shop.

As soon as he made the sale of the weapons and he has been revealed, he was fired from the Summerville Police Department immediately.

A report from the State Criminal Justice Academy revealed the investigation into Rollings began on Dec. 9, 2020 when there was a discrepancy in the amount of money entered into evidence at the department.

The Dorchester County senior assistant solicitor contacted the department, noting that $7,493 was unaccounted for.

The internal investigation showed that on November 13, 2020, then-surgent Rollings modified a computer entry attached to a case showing that $7,493 had been released to a subject.

From what was seen on the surveillance cameras and from the daily reports, the same Rollings entered the evidence room and left shortly after.

Following the incident, in December he had a meeting with his supervisors and he became upset when they asked him about the incident.

However, on the very same meeting he admitted changing the file in the computer and stealing the money. He then removed a plastic bag containing $7,493 from his waist and returned them to the supervisors.

Following the investigation, Rollings was charged with misconduct in office over the missing money.

SLED’s investigation ultimately charged him with grand larceny and misconduct in office.
