Gas prices in South Carolina dropped for nearly 5 cents on average, experts expect the up and down trend to continue in the upcoming weeks

Charleston, South Carolina – The uncertainty of the Russia-Ukraine war on the gas prices is expected to continue in the upcoming period.

While some of the Americans are generally paying less for gas in the last couple of days compared to the period before, experts believe there will be up and down period in the weeks to come.

“For the near future, we’ll see a mix of slight decreases and some potential increases mixed in, Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy said. “While the national average should start to stabilize for the time being, there’s no telling what’s around the corner, at least for now, as the volatility in oil prices persists.”

According to GasBuddy’s latest weekly report issued on Monday, South Carolina drivers were paying 4.5 cents less on average for a gallon of gas during the last week. The average gas price in Palmetto State is $3.89 as of Monday morning.

GasBuddy surveys more than 3,000 gas stations statewide. The current average price is 43.1 cents higher than one month ago and $1.29 higher than one year ago.

Although it went down for a few days recently, the oil price per barrel still sits steady above the $100 mark and it expected to remain there at least for some time.

GasBuddy added that the cheapest gas in South Carolina was sold at $3.34, while the most expensive was sold for $1.08 per gallon more, reaching $4.42 per gallon.

While South Carolinians were paying slightly cheaper gas last week, that wasn’t the case with the national average gas price which remained unchanged during the same period. Per GasBuddy, average national gas price is currently $4.23.
