Local authorities are asking for public’s help in locating the Charleston man who fought deputy after a traffic stop on Saturday, report

Charleston, South Carolina – The Charleston local authorities are asking for public’s help in locating Kevin Laval Thompson who attacked a deputy following a traffic stop over the weekend.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson is considered to be armed and dangerous and people are advised not to approach him if seen in the area.

The incident report indicates that Thompson’s vehicle was stopped on Saturday in the North Charleston area for traffic violation. While the deputies were performing the regular traffic stop, they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked if he has something in the vehicle, Thompson said there was nothing in the car.

Thompson was parked on the side of the road and the deputies decided to search the vehicle.

When deputies found drugs in his vehicle, he fled the scene fighting one of the deputies and threatening to shoot him.

“The suspect fought and threatened a deputy before eventually evading capture,” CCSO officials said.

Before the suspect fled the scene, he tried to reach the deputy’s taser and threatened to shoot him.

Deputies found a total of 165 grams of marijuana and a firearm in suspect’s vehicle.

“Thompson should be considered armed and dangerous,” the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone with information about the suspect can call Master Deputy Austin Rissanen at 843-670-9477 or CCSO at 843-743-7200.
