Man wanted for last month murder arrested on St. Helena Island, police

St. Helena Island, South Carolina – Man wanted for last month murder was arrested on St. Helena Island on Monday, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says.

The suspect, 31-year-old Stephan Polite, was arrested and charged with murder of Anthony Rivers Jr. and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

According to police reports, the incident happened last month on May 29th around 11 p.m. when officers responded to 911 call in regards of a gunshot victim on Keystone Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the 30-year-old Anthony Rivers Jr. suffering gunshot wounds outside a residence during a social gathering.

The victim was transferred to hospital for treatment, but it was too late. He was pronounced dead shortly arrival at the hospital.

The suspect was not immediately located and identified. However, during the next several weeks, the ongoing investigation about the case revealed that Polite was the shooter in the incident.

The suspect is still waiting his bond hearing.
