The 3-year-old boy who was kidnapped by his mother and was considered endangered found safe

South Carolina – Rene Taylor, the grandmother of the 3-year-old Jasper Garcia, said that Jasper might be in danger after he was allegedly kidnapped by his biological mother on Monday. Fortunately, the boy was found safe and his mother was arrested Wednesday early morning, the local authorities confirmed.

According to Taylor, the little boy was last seen at her home on Monday around 5 p.m. before his mother took him and left the house following an argument that sparked after Taylor asked the mother to leave so the grandmother and the boy can watch fireworks show on their own.

The boy’s grandmother, who is also his legal guardian, further claimed that the mother, Vanessa Weatherford, was obviously upset when she was leaving the house as she put Jasper in the car before driving off with him seated on the passenger seat.

Weatherford is Taylor’s stepdaughter. She is former drug addict and according to Taylor, she seemed unstable as she has been making pretty bizarre comments lately. That’s why the grandmother was concerned about the boy’s safety while in Weatherford’s care. Weatherford’s drug abuse and issues she had for extended period of time were the reason for Taylor to become Jasper’s legal guardian.

“She’s been talking about seeing demons and evil. There’s evil all around, and she said there was an evil presence in my house, and she’s made the comment several times that she’s the only one who can protect Jasper,” said Taylor.

Taylor dialed 911 as soon as the mother and the boy left the residence, and deputies from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office quickly arrived at the scene.

“It was pretty rapid. Soon as the officer got there, we got all the information, the supervisor was notified. The supervisor was headed to the scene, and we called the on-call investigator. The on-call investigator headed to the scene, and that’s when the whole process started,” said Kershaw County Sheriff Boan.

In the meanwhile, the grandmother was concerned and sought public’s help in locating her nephew. She said the boy was last seen wearing plaid shorts, a blue striped blue t-shirt and black and blue flip flops. She was not able to confirm the make and model, but described her stepdaughter’s vehicle as a dark green spray-painted car.

Wednesday morning, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office announced that the missing 3-year-old boy was located safely. The Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office says Vanessa Weatherford, the child’s biological mother, led deputies on a chase into North Carolina before being arrested.

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office thanked everyone that helped them in safely locating the boy. They confirmed that Weatherford was taken into custody and she now faces charges in both Kershaw and Chesterfield counties.
