Charleston, South Carolina – Through the end of 2022, South Carolina will be repaving roads as a part of the $642M worth project officials say.
Officials explained that the project will be funded from the latest two-cent increase in the state gas tax that goes into effect in July.
The lawmakers passed the project in 2017 when they raised the gas tax by 2 cents over the next 6 years.
According to the project, this amount will be enough for a total of 1,000 miles of roads across the Palmetto State to be repaired and resurfaced. There are projects in all 46 South Carolina counties.
Agencies will be choosing projects based on rankings under certain criteria like safety and crash data, the condition and age of the road and traffic information.
Roads from interstates to neighborhood streets should be covered with this project.
