The Starbucks store located on Pelham Road in Greenville becomes the first Starbucks in S.C. to unionize with Starbucks Workers United

Greenville, South Carolina – South Carolina now officially has the first Starbucks store that voted to unionize with Starbucks Workers United, multiple outlets reported.

Employees of the Starbucks store in Greenville, located on Pelham Road near I-85, decided to unionize with Starbucks Workers United and to become the first store of its kind in Palmetto State. The decision was brought in an 8-1 vote to unionize.

According to the National Labor Relations Board, there were 29 total eligible voters which included baristas and shift supervisors. Nine ballots were cast.

“I hope this win brings further confidence from our partners who are still waiting for inspiration,” said Hayden Mullen, a shift supervisor at the Greenville store.

As of now, nearly 80 Starbucks stores across the country voted to unionize, but the store in Greenville is the first that passed the vote in South Carolina. According to reports, many other Starbucks stores nationwide are considering to follow the same steps in the upcoming months.

Employees of several S. C. Starbucks stores, located on Clemson Boulevard and in Columbia, have also expressed their desire to unionize and they are expected to vote about unionizing until the end of May.
