The mother of the 2-year-old, J. Gomes, was arrested and charged with child endangerment after she left her children home alone while she was out on a dinner with friends. Following the incident, Child Protective Services took custody of the children.

D. Edwards was going home with his children just after midnight when he spotted the toddler walking alone in the middle of the night on the side of a Houston road. He immediately stopped the vehicle as he knew something is not all right.

Edwards stopped next to the baby and as soon as he approached her, she opened her arms. According to him, everything was fine the baby girl.

Police officers arrived just minutes afterwards and took custody of the child. The baby was taken to hospital for examination. She was in perfect health condition according to the medical reports.

Meanwhile, plenty of police crews were searching the area, homes and hotels. One of the officers saw an open door in a nearby motel. Officers entered the room and they found two other children. It turned out that they were toddler’s brother, aged 8 and 3 respectively. Police found them sleeping.

The children couldn’t answer where they mother was at the time of the incident, but they identified the 2-year-old as their sister.

The mother came back later at the motel. She said she was on a dinner with friends in nearby restaurant and she left her children on purpose. According to her statement, this is not the first time to do that.

She was arrested and charged with child endangerment. She has since bonded out.
