Charleston, South Carolina – The number of new Covid-19 cases is on the rise in many areas across the country, the latest data shows. According to the New York Times Covid-19 tracker, a total of 166,772 new Covid-19 cases were reported nationwide on Friday, July 15, bringing the 14-day daily average to 129,987 cases (+14% 14-DAY CHANGE).
In South Carolina, the 14-day daily average has now reached 1,941 cases, which is a 23% increase, way above the national average.
While in the majority of the counties statewide, the current Covid-19 situation seems to be stable, Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Georgetown and Williamsburg County are all considered to have a high community level, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 County Check.
That’s why wearing face masks in indoor public places is now again recommended. Currently, the dominant strain nationwide is BA.5, a highly contagious strain that easily evades both natural and vaccine immunity.
In the Palmetto State, the number of new Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations are both on the rise.
