Women in SC are paid 20% less compared to men, the state ranks 28 for the smallest gender pay gap in the country

South Carolina – A recent study conducted by business.org shows that South Carolina ranks 28 for the smallest gender pay gap in the country, as of 2022, as women in Palmetto State earn 20% less compared to men.

According to the results of the study, the state’s gap pay means that women in South Carolina effectively stop getting paid on October 25.

The study shows the current gender pay gap in state-by-state analysis and how it changed during the last 40 years.

Where men earn an average salary of $50,599, women earn $40,515. Men are projected to earn an average of $10,084 more than women in 2022.

Other facts about the pay gap in the US:

  • No state across the US pays women more than men, with closing the gap coming to a stalemate over the last decade.
  • Since 2010, the wage gap has hovered between 18% and 19% between the salaries of men and women in similar positions, showing little progress across the nation for pay equity.
  • The largest wage gap is in Wyoming, where women earn 35% less than men.
  • Washington DC has the smallest wage gap, but women still earn 8% less than men.
  • There are only five job roles that report women earn more than men—compliance officers, graphic designers, clinical laboratory technologists, pharmacists, and insurance claims processors.
