Gov. McMaster advises vaccine-reluctant to learn more about the vaccine and decide what’s best for them

Charleston, South Carolina – Gov. McMaster is one of the many lately encouraging the people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

According to him, getting the vaccine for him was the right decision and he advises everyone that is vaccine hesitant to learn more about the vaccine and its benefits by talking to friends, relatives and doctors.

We are seeing an increase in new cases lately in South Carolina, a trend that is also seen across the country.

The governor commented the situation taking into consideration the latest number, both good and bad.

The average number of Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks is 410 cases per day, which is more than double compared to previous period. It looks like the spread won’t stop anytime soon.

In the latest daily report, DHEC reported 1.212 cases, both confirmed and probable cases. The doctors count the probable cases because those results are conducted from rapid tests and should be reconfirmed by PCR tests additionally.

Since the start of the pandemic, the total number of confirmed cases is 606,833, including the rapid tests results.

The positivity rate on Friday was 12,1%, while the seven-day average is 8,0%.

The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 53.4% of South Carolinians 12 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“This milestone is encouraging, and we thank everyone who made the decision to get vaccinated. We are especially proud of our senior citizens, ages 65 and up, who account for more than a third of our state’s vaccinations. But we still have a lot of work to do,” DHEC Director Dr. Edward Simmer said.

“We encourage our younger residents to roll up their sleeve and get this life-saving vaccine so they can protect themselves, as well as family members who may have preexisting conditions and children who are too young to get vaccinated.”

However, the data indicates that only 48.6% of South Carolinians are fully vaccinated and this number is low according to the experts.

Health experts, state officials and White House all push for vaccination. The vaccination rates have stalled lately and now with the Delta variant in place, the numbers are surging in every state especially in those states with the lowest vaccination rates.
