Highest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases since April, DHEC reports 714 cases on Wednesday

Columbia, South Carolina – The increasing number of Covid-19 cases trend continues in South Carolina as DHEC reported the highest daily number since April.

On Wednesday, DHEC issues the latest Covid-19 report.

According to the report, South Carolina added 714 new Covid-19 cases. Confirmed cases are 462 while probable cases are 252.

Probable cases are treated as confirmed cases by doctors and the only difference between confirmed and probable cases is the type of test every person receives.

Additionally, four more confirmed deaths were reported and six probable deaths.

DHEC said the “delay in the reporting of an individual’s death during this pandemic is often attributed to ensuring the death is accurately classified.”

The daily numbers have been declining for weeks until the beginning of July when the cases started rising again.

Health officials are not worried since the latest number are much lower compared to the winter numbers, but urge everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Although the number of new cases varies from state to state, Covid-19 cases are increasing across the country. The health officials say the reason for the latest surge is the delta variant, which is very contagious, and the vaccination rate.

Health officials continue to urge all residents to get vaccinated against the virus.
