It looks like the Delta variant is not slowing its spread across South Carolina as the latest Covid-19 report issued by DHEC on Friday reports more than 5,000 new cases.
According to the report, Palmetto State registered 5,238 new Covid-19 cases on Friday. DHEC say 4,0009 cases are confirmed, while 1,229 are probable.
South Carolina added 31 deaths in the same report. DHEC say 25 cases are confirmed deaths, while six cases are probable.
The positivity rate was 14.5% of all tests conducted. DHEC announced that 36,682 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours.
South Carolina still lags with the vaccination rates. According to the latest data, 46.2% of eligible people are fully vaccinated.
South Carolina has had 554,415 confirmed cases and 8,989 confirmed deaths stemming from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
While the numbers are surging across the state, some parents face issues with the transportation of their children to school especially in Berkeley County where parents complain in over-crowding in school buses.
Additionally, the number of hospitalizations follows the number of new daily cases and some hospitals across the state are facing workers and ICU beds shortage.
