Charleston, South Carolina – The state of South Carolina is seeing the record high number of hospitalizations in children since the start of the pandemic, the South Carolina Children’s Hospital Collaborative and Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) confirmed on Wednesday’s announcement.
According to the provide data (valid up to Wednesday), there are 54 children Covid-19 hospitalizations which is 14 more compared to the day before.
The officials say that there have been 40 children in hospital as a result of Covid-19 on Tuesday.
The data includes patients at South Carolina’s four children’s hospitals:
In the announcement, the South Carolina Children’s Hospital Collaborative and Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) added that all of the hospitalized children are unvaccinated. Half of them, however, are under the age of five and not eligible for vaccination.
So far, eleven of those children are in critical condition, while two are put on ventilator support. One child has been diagnosed with MIS-C.
Children hospitalized with COVID-19 at other medical centers were not included in this data.
DHEC once again reminded parents to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible to slow down the spread of the virus and to avoid potential hospitalization or death.
