Sumter woman calls police to help her, gets killed before officers arrive at her home

Sumter, South Carolina – A man and a woman are dead in a murder-suicide incident in Sumter last weekend officials confirm.

According to the police reports, the victims were identified as Shameka Lashon Dantzler, 36-year-old, and Lester Reed, 41-year-old.

Officers were sent at the scene after receiving a 911 call for domestic violence just before midnight on Sunday, April 4th.

Deputies found a 16-year-old boy when arrived. The boy said his mother and step father were having an argument in the living room.

Police immediately went to the living room where they found the man and the woman. They were still arguing at the moment. Out of a sudden, Reed pulled out his gun and shot the woman. Seconds later second shot was fired.

Deputies went to move and cover the boy out of the living room.

It turned out that the man first shot the woman then killed himself.

“I am saddened by this tragic and needless event,” said Sheriff Anthony Dennis. “I pray for the families involved, particularly, for the juvenile who witnessed this horrific event.

No shots were fired by the officers.
