Suspect arrested in connection with a shooting incident that left a 9-year-old injured

Charleston, South Carolina – An arrest was made in connection with a shooting that left a 9-year-old kid wounded in Charleston on Wednesday.

Charleston police checked the suspect’s criminal record and found that he had been charged with murder in connection with a homicide in 2020. He had been released on bail with an ankle monitor.

The 21-year-old suspect, Justin Moultrie, is charged with one count of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, as well as one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

The incident occurred on April 18, and officers were sent in response to a report of gunfire heard in the vicinity of Johnson and America Streets. Upon arrival, they spotted a vehicle fleeing away from the scene.

Authorities were able to pull over the vehicle shortly and discovered an injured 9-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the shooting is still open.
