High number of new Covid-19 cases in South Carolina continues, the state reported two additional deaths, Fridays’ DHEC report
Columbia, South Carolina – The Delta variant spreads across the country and brings increasing number in the country and the Palmetto State is not excluded.
The new Covid-19 cases have been on the rise for several weeks now and the trend continues.
According to DHEC, South Carolina added 1,392 new cases according to the Friday’s daily coronavirus report.
Additionally, two deaths were reported as a result of the virus in the same report.
Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 8,731 deaths were reported in South Carolina.
The total number of positive cases since last March now reaches 617,148 cases. According to DHEC data, 505,676 are confirmed positive cases, while 111,472 are probable cases.
The positivity rate so far is 12.5% DHEC says.
Health and state officials, including Gov. McMaster, urge people to get vaccinated against the virus. South Carolina is under the average country’s vaccination rate. CDC data indicates that states with lower vaccination rate are experiencing higher number of daily cases, hospitalized patients and deaths.
As of now, 1,912,983 South Carolinians are fully vaccinated and 2,191,201 are partially vaccinated, according to DHEC.
