Police officer placed on administrative leave following Saturday morning deputy-involved shooting in West Ashley, ongoing investigation

West Ashley, South Carolina – One police officer is placed on administrative leave following the Saturday morning officer-involved deadly shooting in West Ashley.

The officer will be on paid administrative leave until South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (also known as SLED) finish the investigation in regards to the deadly shooting.

According to the incident report, deputies were dispatched in the 2500 block of Mona Avenue at around 7:28 A.M. in the Springfield neighborhood following a multiple 911 calls in regards to multiple shots fired.

Multiple vehicles in the area were struck by bullets, including the patrol car that responded first at the scene.

CCSO says a deputy took cover and returned fire, hitting the suspect who was transported to a local hospital where he died.

SLED is investigating the officer-involved shooting incident and the deputy is placed on paid administrative leave.

According to the latest data, this has been the 29th officer-involved shooting since the start of the year in South Carolina.
