ALERT: North and South Santee River bridges repairs underway, this is the schedule

Charleston, South Carolina – North and South Santee River bridges repairs will affect the drivers in the Charleston and Georgetown Counties in the upcoming period.

According to the announcement, SCDOT crews plans to rehabilitate a total of two bridges along US 17 South over the rivers.

The repairs are more than needed as both bridges have been classified as structurally deficient. One of the bridges is 71 years old while the other 70.

“The rehabilitation of the bridges is necessary to improve safety and load-bearing capacity for vehicles,” officials explained.

The repairs start today, April 1st. The southbound bridge will be closes as of today. All traffic will be redirected over the northbound bridge.

Drivers are asked to exercise caution when driving in the area.

Traffic delays are expected during the peak hours.
