The woman who abandoned her 4-year-old son last month on a N. Y. C. street corner was identified by police. Authorities used the video surveillance footage from a local store to identify, arrest and later charge her with abandonment of a child, act in a matter injurious to a child and reckless endangerment.
The connection between the woman and the boy was not immediately revealed. It’s unclear it the 32-year-old S. Salaam has entered a plea or retained an attorney to comment on the allegations.
Before the arrest, NYPD in announcement asked for public’s help in finding the boy’s family.
From what was seen on the footage, Salaam left the boy on street corner alone in the middle of the night. The boy followed the woman, but then she left living him behind.
The young boy was only wearing a sweater, sweatpants and rain boots in the cold weather.
He was immediately taken to hospital evaluation. Luckily, his condition was good.
The investigation led to arrest. Police didn’t provide more information about Salaam, the motive and the case in general.
